The daily puzzle is designed around scarcity: one word, everyone gets the same one, come back tomorrow. That is most of why it works — but it is also frustrating on the day you finish in eight guesses and want another, or the day you want to practise a technique twenty times rather than once.
Unlimited mode is the same game with the clock removed. Each round picks a fresh word from the same dictionary, ranked by the same model, so nothing about the skill transfers differently. What changes is the stakes: there is no streak attached, so a round you abandon costs nothing, which makes this the right place to try things that might not work.
That makes it genuinely useful for practice. If you are working through the four-phase method, running the category sweep five times in a row here will teach you more than five days of the daily will, because you see the variance rather than one sample. The same goes for testing opening words — the tips page recommends keeping a fixed opening trio, and unlimited mode is where you find out whether yours is any good.
When you are done practising, today's daily puzzle is still there and still unsolved. It is the one that counts.

About unlimited mode
Do unlimited rounds count toward my streak?
No. Streaks are tracked only on the daily puzzle, which is deliberate — the streak is a record of showing up, and it would mean nothing if you could pad it. Playing unlimited rounds also does not affect your average guess count on the daily.
Are unlimited words easier than the daily ones?
They come from the same dictionary, so the difficulty distribution is the same, but you will feel more variance because you are seeing many more of them. The daily is curated to keep a reasonable spread across a week; unlimited just draws.
Is unlimited mode a good way to get better?
Yes, and better than the daily for that purpose. Improvement comes from repeating a method and seeing how it behaves across many words, which one puzzle a day makes very slow. Run the category sweep five times here and you will have a much clearer sense of what a promising rank looks like.
Can I play unlimited in Portuguese or Spanish?
Yes — each language has its own unlimited mode drawing from that language's dictionary. The Portuguese version and the Spanish version are separate word pools, just as the daily puzzles are.
